ZINA will be implementing a brand new wastewater treatment station, using a type of membrane filtration called ultrafiltration.
The ultrafiltration process is a low-pressure process, in which the driving force is the pressure of the liquid to be treated. The pre-filtered raw liquid is fed to an ultrafiltration module consisting of semipermeable membranes. All particles (germs, suspended solids, macromolecules …) of size larger than the cutoff are retained at the membrane surface, and are regularly removed by backwashing.
Ultrafiltration is a purely physical mechanism, with no by product generation, and can proceess any quality of water.
